Jody Read

Hello ! My name is Jody Read and I am a fat, genderfluid, artist currently residing in Portland, Oregon. I am a drag performer (Sik Phreak), a visual artist (Uncomfortable Nonsense), and a theatre practitioner. I firmly believe that a theatremaker should know all facets of the craft, a philosophy I learned while earning my BFA in Theatre at Reed College, and so I'm a practicing director, actor, playwright, and crafter of costumes and props. In drag I edit my own audios, choreograph my own numbers, and execute my own original concepts. In visual art I've designed posters and business cards in addition to my usual graphic style and have experimented with many mediums. Art to me should reflect the absurdity of existence and the ways in which the dark and light edges of our lives blend together to create the full range of differing human experiences of the world. My art is rooted in rage, queerness, trauma, and ethical care, and I hope you'll see this reflected in the work you see on this site.
